Melinda French Gates resigns from the Gates Foundation
Billionaire philanthropist and business executive Melinda French Gates announced Monday
she is resigning from the foundation she co-founded with Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, her former husband, to start her own philanthropic venture.
“Under the terms of my agreement with Bill, in leaving the foundation, I will have an additional $12.5 billion to commit to my work on behalf of women and families,”
Bill Gates will now serve as the sole chair of the foundation, whose name is being shortened to the Gates Foundation
CEO Mark Suzman said Monday in a statement on X. It is the world’s largest private foundation.
She spoke about malaria at the White House in 2006 and before the U.N. General Assembly in 2010 about reducing poverty and halting the spread of HIV/AIDS.
When the pair announced their separation in 2021, they said they planned to continue joint philanthropic work.
