OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever leaves the AI company
Ilya Sutskever, co-founder and chief scientist of OpenAI, announced that he was leaving the influential AI company Tuesday after almost a decade.
A person familiar with the situation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters
Sutskever was one of the OpenAI board members who voted to remove co-founder Sam Altman as chief executive in November.
Altman was reinstated days later, and Sutskever and the other directors who voted against Altman resigned from the board.
Sutskever soon changed his position on Altman’s ouster, joining the roughly 770 OpenAI employees who signed a letter in November threatening to quit unless Altman was reinstated and the current board resigned.
Both Sutskever and Altman posted Tuesday’s news in emotional messages on the social network X.
